Kyoto’s Yoshida Shrine Festival is one of the most iconic Setsubun celebrations, featuring vibrant mame-maki (bean-throwing) rituals and festive food stalls. For those looking for something different, Mount Yoshino's Demon Festival in Nara invites you to meet "friendly demons" in an unusual, yet captivating, ritual.

PLUM BLOSSOM FORECAST

As February draws to a close, Japan’s plum blossoms begin to bloom, signaling the arrival of spring. These delicate flowers, celebrated for their beauty and symbolism, can be found in full bloom across Kyoto and Osaka during the latter part of February.
Kyoto’s Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is one of the best places to catch the plum blossoms at their peak (around February 25th). The shrine offers tea ceremonies, traditional sweets, and geishas to accompany your stroll among the vibrant blooms.
