Shinkyogoku and Teramachi shopping streets are filled with souvenir shops, themed (and un-themed) cafes, used-clothing shops (western style, kimono, or both), amusement arcades, sweets and savory snacks abound.  Tired of the crowds?  Step into one of the local temples located next to shops and re-energize. After dark, check out some of the amazing nightclubs and bars near Kawaramachi-dori. High-end Japanese restaurants, cafes, bars, and restaurants are all mixed in together; the only problem is picking one. If you've run out of things to do (or just the energy to do them), sitting on the bank of the Kamo River is a favorite pastime of both locals and travelers alike.
